Hi! We are so excited to welcome you to Art Club!

A little about us: This is a space for homeschool kids, ages 4-14 (and their parents), to connect and make art together in a supportive, low pressure environment. We meet on Fridays from 1:00-3:00 PM at The Salvation Army rec room in Beacon, NY. Each month we will explore different mediums, techniques and projects! See this month's class descriptions below!

We will all meet in the same room, but will have a dedicated instructor for the younger group and the older group.

The class structure for littles: 1 hour of art time and then everyone who wants to is invited to the yard next door for outdoor play (weather permitting). The art projects for the littles will be geared to teach basic concepts and skills.

The class structure for the older kids:

The older kids can choose to stay in the rec room until 3PM to enjoy a longer session with their project, or can head to the yard for playtime at 2PM, if they choose. Art projects for older kids will be a little more in depth and geared towards increasing skills.

The kids can choose which group they want to work in and may move back and forth as necessary or desired.

There is no charge for the class itself, but there is a monthly supply fee of $15 per kid, due upon registration.

See FAQ's below for more information!

Meet the Teachers

Kimberly Lorin Garcia and Oliver Halstead

Hi! I'm Kim and this is my son, Oliver (11) and we, along with my daughter, Violet (6), are so excited to meet you and your littles at Art Club!

I have a background in art as a second major in college and I have loved making art my whole life. I live in Beacon, NY with my family and have lived here for parts of my childhood and then again for the last 13 years. I deeply love our community and wanted to join together my love of art with a service we could provide for our kids. So we made Art Club! This is a dedicated time where we can create together, in a low pressure environment and socialize too!

Katy Wallace

Hi! My name is Katy Wallace and I am a homeschooling mom from Cornwall, NY. I live with my partner, Sean, and two young people; Xenon (10) and Althea (8). I am a community organizer, music teacher and lover of crafts.

I'll be leading the older kids with more advanced options for each weekly project and hold space for extended work time if desired. I'm looking forward to meeting you all, building friendships and finding more ways to support each other in our local homeschool communities.

Frequetly Asked Questions

Where and When is Art Club?

Art Club will be held on Fridays, at 1:00-3:00 PM in the rec room of the Salvation Army in Beacon.

Salvation Army, Beacon

372 Main Street

Beacon, NY 12508

Parking is found on Fishkill Ave, in the designated lot to the left of the purple and green Victorian house.

Is This a Drop-Off Program?

No, this is not a drop-off program. One adult is required to stay for the duration of the class and that adult is responsible for the care of the children who are with them for the duration of the class.

I have a child outside the 4-14 age range, can they come?

Yes! But please note that the age range is geared for the artwork level we are working at. If you have a younger or older child and they will not be completing the assignment for the day, feel free to bring them and you don't need to pay. There is ample space for them to do another activity on their own or with you.

What If My Child Isn't Interested in the Activity of the Day?

Alternate tables will always be set up for independant drawing or other select activities.

Where Do I Park and Where do I Enter?

The desgnated parking lot is on the Fishkill Ave side and has a Salvation Army logo on the left of the property line. Please ensure you are in the Salvation Army's lot and not the lot further to the left, which is for businesses on Main Street. Please note that there are signs posted in the Salvation Army's parking lot that say unauthorized vehicles will be towed, but we do have permission to use the lot and you can safely ignore the signs for the duration of the class.

The entrance to the rec room is the bottom door in the back of the building, under the stairs, to the right of the parking lot.

How Do I Register?

Contact Kim at 718-419-6588.

Because your monthly contribution goes directly and wholly towards supplies for the month, we generally cannot offer refunds. If you have a specific situation that you would like to further discuss, please reach out to Kim or Katy.

What About Closures?

There are no classes during the months of August and December.

As far as weather or sickness closures, please make sure you have given your phone number and keep an eye out for texts from either Kim or Katy.

What else do I need to Know?

The Salvation Army has generously made their space available for us to use free of charge. We as parents must ensure that we leave the space better than we found it. That means parents ensure any spills are cleaned up and the rec room is put back to the way it was before class.

Donations are a great way to show the Salvation Army we are appreciative! Please bring a few dollars to donate, if you are able!
